it needn't have an idea.
first it MUST have good quality, it's plain i think. idea is very good but photos without it aren't worse!
other options are specify I don't know do I looking at them.
It's only this first WOW :)

The idea, innovative idea is the
most important
then quality and
then wow...=D
Baro Featured By Owner Nov 15, 2007
the idea is important, but the quality of how the artist worked it out (for me things like lighting, textures, composition, angle (all in all technical execution) etc.) make a piece unique and worth faving imo.
TheMistressSpawn Featured By Owner Nov 7, 2007
Idea. I've read some fanfics that are, honestly *crap*, but the idea behind them is wow enough to bring be close to faveing it. I usually go for the wow factor, too.
DJBoraP Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2007  Student Traditional Artist
A little late reply, but... where's the "Select all" option? :D
It must have a sensitive idea expressed in a eye-catching way, with the right tools.
SSJ-daisy Featured By Owner Oct 31, 2007
I don't think that I could choose from just one. There's many reasons I'll fave a pic... It all depends on the piece in question I suppose.

idea and quality
1incubus Featured By Owner Oct 29, 2007
I voted first impression must be a wow, but it's really more than that. It's complicated. Idea counts really much. And then there is quality, everyone can have brilliant ideas, but the good deviations are the ones that are well worked on(if ur not just really lucky; ). But if I can only pick one, it really matters much if ur awestruck when u see it.
thechaosofpeace Featured By Owner Oct 28, 2007  Student Traditional Artist
You have to make me say "wow" but if you have a brilliantly innovative idea ie, smart title with an allegorical or symbolic representation in your piece, i would fav it also. if it's just an old idea with a new twist, or if it is well executed old idea, i'd also fav it. i think you do a very nice "wow" factor and your deviations are mostly well executed.
Aresis Featured By Owner Oct 28, 2007
urbanII Featured By Owner Oct 27, 2007
I usually don't have a specific reason. I'll fav anything I like for any number of reasons.
Freq245 Featured By Owner Oct 27, 2007
Quality for me. If the picture has a good idea but just a crappy quality I won't fav it. But if the picture has a really good quality and a crappy idea there's still a good chance for it to be faved by me. Of course, it's better if both factors are there.
matiiii Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007
idea and details. That are most important things when i fav something.
random-nothings Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007  Student General Artist
I'm a fav whore. :/
eviolinist Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007  Hobbyist Photographer
Normally, if I see any two of those in a piece of art, I fav it.
Silver-Dew-Drop Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007  Hobbyist Photographer
I voted "First impression must be a "wow"" and this combines good quality, unique/innovative idea, as well as details. :)
pan-pks Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007
Good quality + good idea = WOW so first impression must be a "wow" ;)
Lee-Xai Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007
Vieles......meist das "WOW" das einem als erstes rausrutscht, aber auch Detailreichtum und Ideen.

Undefined, I fav for many reasons, it doesnt have to be a certain artist, as long as I really like it. I normally fav for reason like, the style; because its a really wierd style, really different, the quality: like are the lines really clean and the paint work perfect, the composition, first wow factor, what it tastes like hahaha only joking you cant eat it. It would taste screeny.
deeahCHUR Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007  Professional General Artist
Undefined, really meaning there's more than one reason. Here are some reasons why I fav an image, in no particular order:

* imagery/composition (you can include the "wow" factor in this part)
* concept and/or message
* style
* media/genre
* complimentary to my own work

The last one helps me to see that others are doing work similar to my own and that I am not alone in a variety of ways. It's not about ego, but it is about genre and community. In my opinion, it encourages like artists to stick together and support each other.

I could fav a lot of work from the artists I watch -- and usually if I fav a work I will watch/friend the artist out of respect, support, and interest in future work -- but that usually feels a bit extreme, so I'll fav work that really captivates me. Also, once I fav a work, it is unlikely that I will un-fav it later to be replaced by a more captivating work.
SuibroM Featured By Owner Oct 26, 2007  Hobbyist Writer
Like it was already said, it's a mixed answer. It's mainly the idea and the details. The whole work can be weak but because of the idea or objective/mensage or a simple detail, that's enough for me. In your case is almost always the "WOW" factor.
ceruleanbloom Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
If the first impression is a wow then I will look closer at the piece. Then I look for quality, concept and how much thought and emotions were put into the piece (not always in that order) Some times its just "I gotta fav!" With no other reason then that. :P
Eruantien-Fett Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
I tend to favorite a picture if it has good quality, though sometimes I'll just favorite stuff I like or might use later. I do go through every so often and just weed out my favorites. Some works last, others don't.
teh-ubermeister Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Only reason I really need is that it interests me yknow?
Zamaza Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Doesn't have to wow me, if it makes me think or react or not want to look away, I usually fave it.

Guess it's really hard to define...
RoninSatyr Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Theres no simple answer for this.
For me to fav something, its useualy a combination of factors.
Could be anything from the quality of the work, the idea conveyed, the emotion in the work and the emotions it instills in me, or it could simply be something that makes me look twice with "wow".

Shuricel Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
It's more of a conversation...

Personally, I like when it makes me want to search for stuff, makes me laugh, makes me go 'OMG THAT ROCKS', makes me stare at it for hours, and makes me feel happy. ^^

Dirktheblade Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
argh! hard question!!! i think it should be a wow, just to catch the eye, but to be so it must have good idea, and usually this must be innovative and creative. The entire purpose of a first impression wow is to bring in the viewer from afar to stare more carefully at the details. to see the details, there must be good quality. the entire reason for studying details is to draw an emotion from it and give the viewer meaning. all-rounder will be an overall fave, but everything is important. ^^
Traitorfish Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Depends. Sometimes it's because of the concept, sometimes the quality of work, sometimes it just makes me laugh. There's no hard and fast rules for me.
Saouke Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Quality is a big yes for me, the piece obviously has to stand out from others and normally the biggest factor in that is how well executed the idea is.

Of course the "wow" factor would be another choice ;), but my reason for quality is pretty much wow factor....
CaptainBloody Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
If it feels like a fav. Its a fav.
Shikiangel Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007  Hobbyist Writer
mwa i need no reasons to fav
but you have the spacy theme going and i like outer space stuff.....and a lot are really shiny
onlyevier Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
I favorite things that resonate with me personally, but other than that, it has to be really symbolic.
Blight215 Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007  Hobbyist Writer
I actually had to choose between to of em
My first impression needs to be a wow , but after the first impression i go look at details, and then i fav.
MisterCow-Pnoy Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
there are many reasons i fav.

mostly it's cuz of the wow factor. but sometimes i use stuff as stock, and i never save stuff like that, so i need to be able to reference back to it.
store-gfx Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Quality-Detail fit together.
I voted quality.
gaeamil Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007   Photographer
I can't say what defines what I fave. Sometimes it's just something that 'clicks' with me. It just touches a chord or something. Like =MattCarter's The Artist's Model. That one, I love incredibly, and it's for reasons I can't say.
Other times, I'm on a fanart rampage and everything half-good of my favourite characters gets fave'd.
But mostly it is a simple feeling of something-that I-don't-know-what-it-is.
FrostZero Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
if the details are intence and good
probrably all of the rest are involved
thats makes the diference for me =)

if it's a girl on the dev, my first impression must be " damn, i'm in love once again" : D
SwampMist Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
I think that the first impression must be a "wow" cause this takes into account some of the other points you mentioned. For example the "wow" really comes forth from the idea, quality and sometimes emotions. As mentioned by other people it also depends on the art. But generally if there's a "wow" I don't care what kind of art it is cause it still caused me to look at with more attention.
floydiac Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
It should have something that I think is special.

It has to be well-produced, before I even consider it. But at least one more thing has to be fantastic.

I don't fave people because they "are my favourite artists." That gives them false information. Afterall, reaction tells you if you should improve. To fave evrything would send the message that everything an artist does is perfect, all the time. Which is unlikely.
MistyLake Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007  Hobbyist General Artist
Everything. For me it is easy to get a watch out of me, you just have to have good art. Getting a favorite out of me is compleltely different, it must be high quality, have a good idea the reads easily, and a subject matter I like. at least. ^^ I think for a long time before diciding to fav.
ChrisRDI Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007  Hobbyist Photographer
i generaly fave any where from 30 - 40 percent of devs from my friends and front page but ther are thos certain devs that are just so "wow" there arent enough words to describe now those are truely spectacular. like yours! i love your work!
Emn1ty Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
I usually like innovation, but mostly impact. I like images that take a second to get the bearings, ones that make you think. If you look at an image and have to say, "wait a second...", then I think you really have something.
Neo-Mullen Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
First the 'wow' after that I'm going to look for details, if they are both there, it becomes a fave ^^
Verithia Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007  Student Digital Artist
I think the quality of the pic, the detail, the color... the theme :) The style
Quellist Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
Technically, I fav based on innovative idea AND quality, but since only one choice is permitted here, I'd have to go with innovative idea.
AsylumImmaculate Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
RIVI1969 Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2007
I feel it in my guts the very second I see it, could be many things, beauty, originality it is always different since every pic is unique...
