Concerning the foreground.
I like it very much. With that somewhat dead looking vegetation and the lonely bird sitting on it, it provides a sense of a although advanced but dying world.
So signpost might be seen with a doublemeaning: in the literally way of that tower being a signpost for something, but as well the image itself, being a signpost of what to come.
Of course entirly only my 2cents.
